It has been an incredibly busy week for us here at Photography Life – we shipped out over 1000 orders of the Sensor Gel Stick! I am happy to inform that we finally have some stock left for those that have not had a chance to order due to the previous back-order situation. We have been in short supply for over a month and although we did our best to inform our customers, some were quite unhappy about waiting so long for their order to ship. We sincerely apologize for this situation and we thank everyone for being very patient with us while we were doing everything we can to get the orders fulfilled as soon as possible. Going forward, we will do our best to manage the stock better.
For those who already bought the Sensor Gel Stick, we finally have plenty of the Sticky Paper in stock (close to 1000 units). We have been also in short supply for the Sticky Paper, so we were happy to receive a big shipment this time.
A quick note to those of our readers and customers that purchased the Sensor Gel Stick. We have previously issued a Product Advisory for the product, warning of potential issues when using the Sensor Gel Stick on Sony mirrorless cameras. While the advisory has been up on the product page for a while now, I wanted to point it out once again here:
Sony’s proprietary coating technology on its mirrorless cameras might cause the Sensor Gel Stick to leave some residue on the surface of the sensor filter, which will require thorough wet cleaning. The residue can be removed with a wet cleaning solution, but might take significant effort to clean it. Therefore, we recommend that you do NOT use the Sensor Gel Stick on Sony mirrorless cameras listed below. The manufacturer of the Sensor Gel Stick is working on a different solution to clean Sony sensors, so we are planning to start offering a Sony-specific version of the Sensor Gel Stick soon.
Here is the list of Sony camera models that are affected: Sony A7R, Sony A7, Sony A5000, Sony A6000, Sony NEX-7, Sony NEX-6, Sony NEX-5 (all models), Sony NEX-3 (all models). We have not heard of any other reports regarding other brand cameras.
We have been doing what we can to inform customers, but due to the large volume of outbound emails, some mail servers ended up blocking us, so some of you might not have received the above advisory.
Unfortunately, the new coating applied by Sony on its mirrorless cameras seems to be problematic not only for the Sensor Gel Stick, but also for other sensor cleaning solutions on the market. Once the Sony version of the Sensor Gel Stick becomes available, we will make an announcement on our site.
